Farewell Ceremony for Two Giant Pandas Traveling to France

At 14:30 pm on January 14, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding held a farewell ceremony for two giant pandas traveling to France. Zheng Kunsheng, President of Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Jia Jiansheng, Deputy Director-general of Department of Wild Life Conservation and Natural Reserve Management of SFA, and Deputy Director-general of Standing Committee of Giant Panda Conservation Office of SFA, Zhang Shanning, Deputy Director-general of Giant Panda Conservation Office of SFA, Xiang Chu, Vice President of Forestry Department of Sichuan Province, Yang Tianming, Director-general of Conservation Division of Forestry Department of Sichuan Province, Yang Xuyu, Director-general of Conservation Station of Wildlife of Forestry Department of Sichuan Province, Luo Shulin, Deputy Secretary-general of Chengdu People's Government, Ou Zhao, Deputy Director of Chengdu Forestry and Gardens Administration, Zhang Zhihe, Director of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Mr. Emmanuel Rousseau, Consulate General of the Republic of France in Chengdu, Ms. Delphine Delord, Representative of Zoo Parc de Beauval and international and domestic press conference and guests attended the farewell ceremony for giant panda Yuan Zai and Huan Huan.

Zheng Kunsheng, Jia Jiansheng, Xiang Chu, Luo Shulin, Mr. Emmanuel Rousseau and Ms. Delphine Delord gave speech on the ceremony respectively to extend their sincere blessing for the two giant pandas traveling to ZooParc de Beauval, and our best wishes for regarding the giant pandas as the ambassador of peaceful diplomacy on behalf of Chinese government, to build a bridge for politics, economy and cultural exchange between China and France and promote the friendship of the two nations.

After the speeches, Luo Shulin declared that the giant pandas traveling to France initiated their trip formally, and the leaders pulled down the “Departure Pole”. The farewell ceremony was completed successfully.

However, with the care of experts and keepers in the base and the efforts of himself, Yuan Zai grew up healthily and even became a panda with somewhat like “Kong Fu”, who may be only second to Gong Zai, the prototype of Kung Fu Panda Po. Unlike other giant pandas, he’s fond of playing hammock and enjoys the ease and comfortableness, and he is fond of eating wood-bamboo, Bambusa stenostachya Hack and bun, etc.

Mother: Qi Zhen (Pedigree No. 490)

Father: Lin Lin (Pedigree No. 455)

Birth weight: 80g, the name of “Huan Huan” is originated from “Beijing Huan Ying Ni” (pinyin form of “Welcome to Beijing”), the five mascots of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. As the healthiest “top star” among pandas in 2008, Huan Huan seldom fell ill and also leaded in the weight among these pandas. She is fond of eating wood-bamboo, Bambusa stenostachya Hack and bun. Huan Huan was once selected be the central government as the candidate of panda gifted to Macao SAR.
