On June 4, 2017, the Adventure World in Shirahama, Wakayama, Japan, held a spectacular farewell ceremony for Haibang, Yangbang and Youbang. Over 1,200 panda fans came to see the three pandas off. The Adventure World in Shirahama also prepared ice cakes with favorite foods for the panda siblings, wishing them good luck to meet ideal mates in their new hometown.
Haibang and Yangbang are twins born at the Adventure World in Shirahama on August 11, 2010. Their mother is Liangbang, a female panda raised in Japan. Haibang is the male and Yangbang is the female. The twins’ little sister, Youbang, was born on August 10, 2012.

Outstanding Achievements made on Panda Breeding through Sino-Japanese Friendly Cooperation
The three pandas , Haibang, Yangbang and Youbang, are the third, fourth and fifth cubs of the panda couple, Liangbang and Yongming. In 1994, upon approval from the State Council of the P.R.C., Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding initiated an international scientific research program with the Adventure World in Shirahama, Wakayama, Japan. Over the past 22 years, China and Japan have made outstanding achievements on panda breeding, and succeeded in breeding 10 fetus and 15 cubs in total. The “Bang” panda family at the Adventure World in Shirahama is the family abroad. So far, eight pandas have come to live in China, and Haibang, Yangbang and Youbang are the ninth, tenth and eleventh pandas to come from Shirahama.

Panda Siblings Will Appear at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding after One Month.
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has prepared for the panda siblings with a large supply of delicious bamboo shoots. According to Yang Zhi, an expert in the disease control center of the panda base, bamboo shoots are more nutritious and taste better than bamboo, and the three pandas will soon get used to eating them. In the future, the Base will gradually add other foods, such as biscuits and steamed corn bread in the menu, so as to help the panda siblings get used to the food in their new hometown.
Pandas traveling from abroad are considered imported animals. Therefore, they must be kept in quarantine in Chengdu Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau for 30 days. This could be a stressful period during this time when pandas need to adapt themselves to the changes in food, environment, language and bamboo. They also need to undergo health examinations, immunizations and de-worming. According to the laws and regulations of China, the venue for pandas to live in the quarantine period should be independent, enclosed and strictly sterilized. The three panda siblings will be separated from the outside world, and taken care of by dedicated keepers. After one month, when the quarantine period is over, visitors will be able to see the panda siblings at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
