The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, using its abundant science popularization and education resources and with the protection of panda and other endangered wildlife as the vector, organized several activities under the theme "Fun Summer Holiday · Pandaversity Panda & Environmental Protection Science Popularization Workshop", for visitors to the Base during the summer vacation in 2020, especially young students. Under a total of five themes, eleven activities to popularize scientific knowledge were conducted from July to August during the summer vacation, and the contents covered creative DIY, scenario board games, handmade paper folding, animal song singing and waste recycling among others. The activities aim to educate the students by having fun while learning, develop the ability of young students to think and operate, establish an emotional bond between the public and nature, foster the enthusiasm for environmental protection, raise awareness for wildlife protection and encourage the public to proactively take actions in environmental protection by starting from small matters around, to jointly welcome the 2021 Chengdu Universiade.

Theme I: Inspiration · Bring Home an "Environmentally-friendly Bag"

After the science popularization instructor explained the knowledge about biodiversity protection, the visitors used their own imagination to draw a nature-themed colored picture on the environmentally-friendly bag using color pens, to make an exclusive DIY environmentally-friendly bag. This was to encourage everyone to choose recyclable items in daily life and reduce the use of disposable products.

Theme II: Adventure · Board Game "Panda Going Home"

A fun panda knowledge popularization board was designed, and participants, as friends of pandas, simulated the living environment of pandas in the wild on the board while the science popularization instructor was explaining the knowledge about giant pandas, and moved forward or backward according to the scenarios presented. This helped the participants learn about the threat faced by giant pandas and other endangered animals in the wild and how people protect these endangered animals in a scientific manner, and encouraged the public to boycott the wildlife trade.

Theme III: Party · Paper-folded Zoo

The visitors made animal masks (in the image of giant panda and lesser panda) with paper models to learn about wildlife protection, establish an emotional bond between the public and wildlife and foster the public's enthusiasm for protection while the science popularization instructor was explaining relevant knowledge.

Theme IV: Singing · Lesser Pandas Riding the Wind and Waves

Besides fun facts concerning the lesser pandas, children's songs were also recomposed according to the living habit and traits of lesser pandas. The visitors learnt to sing and dance as instructed by the science popularization instructor, to learn about these lesser pandas, establish an emotional bond between the public and wildlife and foster the public's enthusiasm for protection.

Theme V: Creativity · Building a Treasure Chest with Plastics

The science popularization instructor explained the current situation of environmental protection and garbage sorting and advocated that everyone should use waste materials such as plastic bottles to DIYed them into small decorative items or daily essentials. This was to encourage the public to limit the use of plastics and transform "waste" into wealth to recycle such resources.
