The launch ceremony of the Fifth Internship Experience Camp for Giant Panda Conservation for Students on Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait was held at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The event was co-sponsored by Sichuan Cross Strait Cultural Exchange Association and Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, with the cooperation of Panda Channel. Luo Zhiping, director of Taiwan Affairs Office of Sichuan Provincial People's Government, and Wu Yongsheng, secretary and director of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, attended the launch ceremony and delivered both a speech.

During the ceremony, Wu Yongsheng, Director of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, welcomed the students from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. He also said that since the mainland gave giant pandas to Taiwan in 2008, giant pandas had become the "stars" of cross-Straits exchanges. He hoped that young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will learn something new and have a great experience through the event: make friendships, help in the protection of giant pandas, participate in ecological protection, strengthen exchanges and cooperation.

Luo Zhiping, director of Taiwan Affairs Office of Sichuan Provincial People's Government, also said he hoped Taiwan students would gain friendship in Sichuan through their shared interest in Pandas, and that they would also appreciate the institutional advantages of the mainland socio-economic development in Sichuan and would pass on what they saw to relatives and friends in Taiwan.

Representatives of students from both sides of the Taiwan Strait also delivered speeches and talked about how they felt being at the event. They also issued a declaration on the protection of giant panda. Finally, Director Luo Zhiping and Director Wu Yongsheng gave the camp flag to the students representatives.

A total of 36 college students campers from universities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait participated in the camp event. On the morning of October 30 the students visited all the Giant Panda Houses and the Lesser Panda Villas in the park. They learned a lot about the giant panda's living habits and behavior. In the afternoon, they attended the science popularization lecture on exploring the secrets of Giant Panda conducted by professional science popularization teacher. Then the students learned how to make and tested the special "steamed corn bread" for giant panda. In the following 2 days, scientific researchers, professional breeders and senior volunteers, and the students visited the Science Exploration of Panda and other key laboratories. They watched how professional breeders train giant pandas and how they design and make enrichment tools for giant pandas. Then they went to all parts of the base to set up "science popularization stalls", to explain all kinds of science popularization knowledge of giant panda to the visitors.

Finally, the staff held a closing ceremony at Chengdu Qing Tong City Hotel, and the camper certificate was issued by Pu Anning, Minister of General Secretary Department of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The camp event was a great success.
