The Council of the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens successfully held in Hefei

  From June 14th to 20th, 2009, the fifth general meeting and the first council of the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens was held in Hefei. Leaders from the Ministry of Housing and Urban- Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China,the Personnel Department and representatives from Zoos over China attended the meeting.  
 

 
  During the meeting, Dr. Zhang Zhihe, the director of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding gave a presentation entitled “Construction and Development of the Chengdu Panda Base” which introduced the important achievements in research, breeding, protection, education, and tourism surrounding giant pandas since the establishment of the Base over 20 years ago. The achievements were praised by the participants.
 
  The Chengdu Panda Base was elected by a unanimous vote as vice-chairman member of the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens, and Dr. Zhang Zhihe was elected as vice president.
 
  In total, over a hundred copies of Progress in Captive-Giant Panda Research, Animals and Me- A Guide for Humane Education for Teachers and Parents, the Giant Panda Magazine and The New Direction of Conservation Education in China- Chengdu Panda Base were given out at the participants’ request. They said they were the best gifts from the Chengdu Panda Base in the meeting, because it will guide them to conduct conservation education.
