Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding Honored at 4th Science Education Project Exhibition and Evaluation Activity for Science Popularization Venues Proofreader:    Time: 2018-10-23

The 4th Science Education Project Exhibition and Evaluation Activity for Science Popularization Venues, jointly sponsored by the Youth Science and Technology Center of China Association, Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums, and China Association of Children’s Science Instructors was held at the Suzhou Science and Technology Museum for Youth from September 25 to 28, 2018. The science education project Exploring Pandas - Protection Education Course Series developed by the Panda Base won third prize at the event that evaluates and exhibits innovative ideas from around the country.
A total of 87 science and technology museums, natural science museums, professional technology museums, youth science studios, national science popularization education bases, universities, and research institutes submitted 198 projects to showcase at this exhibition and evaluation activity. After the initial evaluation, 72 projects from 60 science popularization venues were entered into the final competition. The projects were divided into two categories, including exhibition education projects and expansive education projects. The final evaluation and after each group presented, and a panel of expert judges were able to ask further questions. Then First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, Excellence Awards, Special Awards, and others were presented. The judges were scientific education researchers in universities, and scientific and technical workers from science communication agencies and science popularization venues.
Compared with the previous exhibition and evaluation activities, education projects that were a prt of this activity have fully utilized the resource advantages of their respective venues. They are diversified in form and rich in content, and many of them have distinct science education characteristics as off-campus science popularization venues. The science education project Exploring Pandas – a Protection Education Course Series of panda base focuses on the connection with the overall outline of science curriculum in primary and secondary schools, and complements science education in schools. While disseminating scientific knowledge, it also aims to cultivate the ability to think critically in line with the scientific method by developing a scientific outlook along with a comprehensive practical abilities.
The panda base will continue to improve its professional quality, improve the quality of science popularization courses, and provide more high-quality science education activities for the public to meet the growing demand of science education by schools, families, and society.
