On May 12, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake hit Wenchuan with strong tremors felt at the Chengdu Panda Base. A few low walls collapsed and some buildings have cracks, and the number of visitors fell from 3000 to 200 a day.
The Chengdu Panda Base is a popular tourist destination and a State Level AAAA Scenic Area. The base remains open after the disaster.
The Chengdu Panda Base will continue to strive towards excellence and welcomes any and all visitors.
