The World Earth Day, a festival dedicated to environmental protection, is celebrated on April 22 every year to raise public awareness of environmental protection, and encourage the public to actively lead a green and low-carbon life, so as to build an eco-friendly homeland on Earth. The theme of this year’s World Earth Day is “Global War Against Plastics”.
On the occasion of the 55th World Earth Day, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding carried out public welfare science popularization activities in the park with the theme of “Aligning with the Giant Panda, Quick Fix to Plastics”. By introducing giant pandas, their habitat protection, wildlife conservation, and the global war against “plastics”, these activities showed how the public can contribute to environmental protection in their daily life. In addition, through the display of children’s DIY creative plastic production and exhibition of their excellent works, these activities intend to arouse people’s awareness of plastic reduction and deepen their ties with the nature as part of the effort to encourage the public to take part in the Blue Earth Actions by choosing sustainable ways of living. The synergy effort will help build a sound ecology on the planet.
These activities grabbed visitors’ attention with the help of highly popular mediums and motivated them to get involved, which not only strengthened their impression on science knowledge, but also fostered their awareness of environmental protection. The site was full of hilarious atmosphere of science popularization, during the process of which visitors actively participated in the activities and spoke highly of the event.
